The following local residents made the Fall 2015 Dean's List at Georgia Southwestern State University and were among 512 students recognized for scholastic achievement.

Samford University releases dean's lists after the close of the fall and spring semesters each academic year. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. Dean's List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.

Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs, president of the University of North Georgia, has recognized more than 1,200 students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average during the fall 2015 semester.

The University of North Georgia's fall commencement ceremonies were held Dec. 10-11 for more than 500 participants; in total, UNG conferred nearly 800 degrees for fall semester.

The following students achieved the Dean's List at Belmont University for the Fall 2015 semester. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

On Friday, July 17, 2015, the newest Georgia College students and their families will attend New Student Orientation. Orientation is a day-long program that offers new students and transfer students the opportunity to establish a link with faculty in their intended major, become familiar with the campus and the array of academic and campus life programs available and "take care of business" to prepare for move-in.

The Florence Kopleff Vocal Scholarship recognizes music majors who have demonstrated exceptional vocal talent. The award was established in 1998 by Florence Kopleff and friends.

Georgia Southern University recently named 2,611 students for excellence in academics to the 2015 Spring Semester Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

More than 1,700 students made the spring 2015 Deans' Lists at the University of North Georgia (UNG) for achieving a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B. The deans of UNG's five colleges — The College of Arts & Letters, The College of Education, The College of Health Sciences & Professions, The Mike Cottrell College of Business, and the College of Science & Mathematics — announced the names of students who made their respective lists.

Georgia State University graduated more than 5,700 students receiving bachelor's, master's and specialist's degrees at the university's spring and summer commencement on Saturday, May 9 in the Georgia Dome.

The William Burge Scholarship is given to two outstanding accounting students in honor of William Lee Burge.
